The City of San Antonio’s Head Start program distributed summer activity packets to students and their parents to keep them engaged in reading and active in the summer months.
Head Start, in collaboration with the San Antonio Public Library, created summer activity packets which included reading tips and information sheets for parents. The information sheets will be included in books purchased through FIRST BOOK and provided to parents at PCC meetings, teacher-parent conferences, Policy Council meetings, and other events where parents are in attendance.
Summer Activity Packs will be sent home with the students at the end of the school year and include the scholastic book pack, a jump rope, Frisbee (to encourage physical activity), and an information sheet provided by SAPL on the Mayor’s Reading Club.
Scholastic’s Clifford the Dog and other mascots including the Scorpion, the mascot from the minor league soccer team, will be visiting Head Start campuses to assist with the distribution and get students excited about summer reading.
The City of San Antonio Head Start program provides Head Start early education for children ages three to five and served 2,861 students in the 2013-2014 school year and will serve 3,030 children in the 2014-2015 school year.
