DONATIONS Thousands of dollars of books have been donated by the Great Northwest
Library Friends to supplement the library’s book collection. The Friends Group
has also donated furniture and fixtures such as racks to hold audio and video
tapes, book trucks, and money for special programs.
Members of the community have donated trees and other native Texas plants to
beautify the landscape through a program organized by the Friends Group in
recognition or in memory of loved ones.
HISTORY
The library opened in October 1994. The funds were authorized in the 1989
bond issue. Architects were Lake/Flato, Inc. The building has won many
architectural awards and has received praise in both the architectural realm and
the library realm. The building is due for expansion authorized by the 1999 bond
issue.
