You can encourage creativity, inspire a budding young writer, and make a significant difference in your students' lives by encouraging them to participate in this unique competition, now in its 82nd year. Entries will be accepted between September 15 and December 15, 2008. Entries may be submitted by the individual poet or by the leading teacher as a class project. However, please do not submit any poem without the poet’s knowledge and consent. All entries must have the poet’s contact information at the top of the original poem in order to qualify. Please be aware that if a class project generates poems that contain one or more exact phrases in common, those poems will be considered plagiarized and will be disqualified. We encourage you to submit all poems, in accordance with the competition rules, without regard to subject or content. The Library’s panel of judges will critique all poems. Complete rules for the poetry competition are available at the library website. For additional information, please call (210) 207-2621. Librarians are willing and able to come to your classroom to talk to your students about the program. We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to working with you and your students in the 2008-09 school year. Sincerely, |
