While the City of San Antonio expanded the Public Library
system and staffed it through the years, public funding alone was unable to keep
pace with the needs of a growing populace. Recognizing the power of pooled
resources a group of concerned community leaders established the San Antonio
Public Library Foundation in 1983 as a charitable organization to augment the
Library's budget with private and philanthropic support.
Mission
The mission of the Library
Foundation is to support the Public Library and to increase awareness and use of
the Library through financial support and programmatic efforts, thereby
enhancing the community's appreciation and utilization of the Library as a
cultural and education institution.
The Challenge
The greatest challenge for the
future is ensuring that all San Antonians gain the tools for success in the 21st
Century. The Library Foundation's Centennial Fundraising campaign complements
this agenda, securing the funding for more learning and information materials
and technology now while establishing an endowment to upgrade materials and
technology it he future.
If you would like to support the Library Foundation with a
tax-deductible donation or gift, please call (210) 225-4728.
