Cellar Treasures in the Cellar Book Cellar | Monthly Update | Price List | Friends Sales
The Book Cellar is a used bookstore that is located in the basement of the Central Library at 600 Soledad Street. It is run by volunteers from the Friends of the San Antonio Public Library. The Book Cellar is open from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. every day of the year that Central Library is open, which includes Saturdays and Sundays. On Thursdays it is open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for late shoppers. The Library offers customers and all patrons of the library one hour free parking in the parking garage next door. Regular prices for adult books are $1.00 for hardbacks and 25 or 50 cents for paperbacks. Children's books sell for 25-50 cents. Some uniquely valuable books, like art books, are priced a little higher (usually from $2.00 to $5.00). However, the Book Cellar often has clearance sales on books. For example, fiction books might sell at two or three for a dollar. No other used bookstore in San Antonio sells books this cheaply. The selection at the Book Cellar includes fiction, non-fiction, reference books, CDs, videos and audio tapes. There are also some Spanish and foreign language books. The selection changes daily. By city ordinance all books withdrawn from the San Antonio Public Library may be sold by the Book Cellar. With these books and other donated by individuals and organizations, the Book Cellar is able to sell books to the public at very low prices. For this reason, many teachers and students visit the Book Cellar to purchase books to service their school needs or just for fun. Proceeds from the sale of books at the Book Cellar benefit library projects such as the Summer Reading Program. For additional information, call the Book Cellar at (210) 227-9519. |
