SUMMER READING PROGRAM

With the San Antonio Public Library celebrating its 100th birthday this year, the annual Summer Reading Program promises to be a special one. Beginning June 1st, children or teens can register online at www.sanantonio.gov/library/ or at any library location. The summer reading programs are free and open to the public. On July 26th, SummerFest is scheduled to wrap up this special year of the Summer Reading Program.

S.A., USA!
This year's children’s Summer Reading Program will be celebrating the City of San Antonio. Children will begin to develop a lifelong love of reading and have a chance to win great prizes for reading for 5, 10 and 15 hours. Worried that your child is too young to participate? No problem! Small children can take part by being read to. Children can also participate by reading to younger brothers and sisters.

Where’s Libro?Libro the Lion
Kids will also have a chance to play a fun mystery game featuring Libro the Lion, the Summer Reading Program mascot. Correctly guess the six San Antonio landmarks that Libro has visited and have an opportunity to win a SeaWorld Adventure Park visit for four and a stay at the Radisson Hill Country Resort and Spa. The mystery game form will be attached to the back of the summer reading program log. Don’t be afraid to guess! Even if all the answers aren’t correct, kids could still win two one-day passes to SeaWorld.

Special centennial events will be coming to your location all summer long including Chuck Golla, the World’s Most Honest Magician and musician/songwriter/entertainer Joe McDermott. Check with your branch library, call 207-2500 or go online at www.sanantonio.gov/library to find out more!

Too old for the children’s Summer Reading Program? Think the library is too dull? Think again! Specially geared for teens only, the SAPL Top 100 Summer Reading Program will celebrate and emphasize a variety of materials, including CDs, videos, and websites along with books. Teens will be able to complete game cards to receive awards like coupons for free food or a mini-FM radio.

Also on the schedule to coincide with the SAPL Top 100 is the Shadow Mystery Game: Who Kidnapped the DJ? Teens will have the opportunity to find the perp in six weeks with six clues and six suspects. Correct entries will be eligible for a chance to win a SeaWorld Adventure Park visit for four and a stay at the Radisson Hill Country Resort and Spa. Even incorrect entries will have a chance to win two one-day passes to SeaWorld.

Take a breather from chasing the DJ kidnapper and hang out at your local library. There will be Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments, henna tattoos and open mike nights. Special centennial programs will include SKRATCH SKOOL and Extreme Texas Wrestling. Check with your branch library, call 207-2500 or go online at www.sanantonio.gov/library to find out more!
