AMERICAN VISIONS: THE SBC COLLECTION
On
Display in the Central Library's Gallery
(June 8 - August 10, 2003)
In observance of the San Antonio Public Library’s 100th birthday
celebration SBC Communications Inc. is hosting an exhibition titled,
"American Visions: The SBC Collection" at the Central Library’s Art Gallery
from June 8 through August 10, 2003. Works in the exhibition include a selection
of works from the corporate collection of SBC and include modernist works by
Alfred Stieglitz, George Bellows, Georgia O’Keeffe and Arthur Dove and
contemporary works by Roy Lichtenstein, William Wegman, Jacob Lawrence and
Manuel Neri.
SBC has always been committed to sharing and exposing their collection of
American art not only to its employees and their families, but also the
community at large. SBC, one of the world’s leading telecommunications
companies, is devoted to utilizing their collection as an extensive and thorough
educational resource. SBC recognizes the importance and value of the arts and
rely on their collection as an educational tool to reinforce their efforts to
support the arts within their communities. They utilize their collection to
enrich and educate the communities served by SBC Communications as well as those
that might not otherwise be so fortunate to have arts and museum representation
within local proximity.
Through a broad cross-section of diverse representation, genres, mediums and
generations of artists, SBC has assembled a world-class collection of American
art whose educational importance cannot be overestimated.
