Art Exhibition The San Antonio Public Library is proud to exhibit various pieces from the collection of geometric artist Mrs. Mamie Lee Schatz at the San Antonio Public Library Gallery located at 600 Soledad Street. The show opens on Thursday, January 13, 2005 and concludes on Sunday, January 30, 2005. An opening reception is scheduled for Saturday, January 15 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Mrs. Mamie Lee Schatz was born in Jackson, Georgia, in 1942 and spent most of her early years working in fields planting and harvesting crops. At the age of 12, Mrs. Schatz became fascinated with color and graphic geometric shapes and its demand for organization and control. In 1996, Mrs. Schatz had her first opportunity to draw and paint her “Love Knot”, a design she would draw in the Georgia dirt fields as a child. The “Love Knot” and other art pieces from the Schatz collection are unique, with eye-catching color, and can be viewed at the San Antonio Public Library. The San Antonio Central Library’s Gallery is used to the support the Library’s mission “to inform, educate, and entertain and culturally enrich…” .
