What: My Name is Moshe, a one-man show celebrating the
Centennial of Hava Nagila
One Night Only! In 1910 a schoolteacher in Jerusalem challenged his class to provide words for a wordless tune known as a nigun. Moshe Nathanson, a 12-year-old boy, responded with the lyrics to Hava Nagila, and a world-wide tradition was born. Sheldon Feinberg, one of Nathanson's students and a friend of his for more than 40 years, wrote the book Hava Nagila: The World’s Most Famous Song of Joy, in memory of his teacher. Out of the book grew My Name is Moshe, a one man-show to honor the Centennial of Hava Nagila, a celebration that began in 2003 and will continue for several more years. Mr. Feinberg, now Cantor of Beth Israel Congregation Synagogue in Beaufort, South Carolina, has performed the show in cities from Jerusalem to Savannah, Georgia, and will bring it live to San Antonio for one presentation only: Tuesday, January 25, 7:00 p.m., at the Central Library Auditorium, 600 Soledad. The program is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. One hour free parking available in the Library parking garage with validated ticket. For more information, the public may call 207-2500. Posted/Updated: 03/03/2005 |
