Brook Hollow Branch Library Undergoes Renovation and Expansion

On Tuesday, April 12, at 10:00 a.m., District 9 Council Representative Carroll W. Schubert will join the Library Board of Trustees and Library management and staff at Brook Hollow Branch Library, 530 Heimer Road, for a groundbreaking ceremony for the branch’s renovation.

When construction is finished, the branch library will have an additional 1,500 square feet, including a new children’s area and a quiet study room. The public service area will be rearranged to allow more efficient use of space and better customer flow. Additional plans include replacing the roof, major elements of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, and much of the interior lighting, as well as reconfiguring the parking lot to improve traffic flow.

Library officials said the project would entail closing the branch from late May through September. Arrangements are being made to provide basic services to Brook Hollow customers using a small bookmobile which will be parked at the branch. Additionally, Summer Reading activities will continue without interruption, thanks to an arrangement with the North East Independent School District and Coker Elementary School.

The project architect is Vitetta, a company which has previously worked with the Free Library of Philadelphia, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals Library, and the Jacksonville, Florida, Public Library. The $1.019 million project fund came from the 1999 Bond Election, 2002 Community Obligation Bonds, and the 2003 Bond Election.

The event is open to the public.
