San Antonio Public Library Celebrates Release of Newest Harry Potter Book The Central Library, 600 Soledad, will be transformed into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on Friday, July 20, as Harry Potter fans and library staff (some of whom are the same people) celebrate the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the final book in J.K. Rowlings’ record-breaking series. One hundred lucky party-goers will get to check out copies of the book at midnight. While waiting for the “witching hour,” they can watch a special showing of the first Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, create wizardly crafts, and keep their strength up with refreshments. The festivities will start at 10:00 p.m., when tickets will be passed out to the first 100 children or teens in line to permit them to check out the first 100 copies, with 30 alternate tickets also being distributed in case one of the first 100 is unable to check out a book. The doors to the Central Library will open at 10:30 p.m. To be able to check out one of the 100 copies, a child or teen must have a current library card in good standing, with no more than $10.00 in fines on the account. A child or teen may use an adult’s library card to check out a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but tickets allowing check-out will be distributed only to children or teens. The event is free and open to the public. Free parking will be available in the library parking garage from from 10:00 p.m. Friday, July 20, through 1:00 a.m. Saturday, July 21. For more information, the public may call 207-2500. Posted/Updated: 07/23/2007 |
