News Release

Week of August 13, 2007

What: The Tobin Library at Oakwell Reopens
Where: 4134 Harry Wurzbach Road
When: 1:00 p.m. · Monday, October 22

The Board of Trustees of the San Antonio Public Library has announced that the Tobin Library at Oakwell, 4134 Harry Wurzbach Road, will reopen at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 22, after being closed for renovations since October 3. A rededication ceremony is scheduled for December 3.

Library Director Ramiro Salazar noted that, although some work would continue after the library reopened, most of it had been completed. “The library had committed to making the Tobin Library at Oakwell available for early voting, and it was important to us to meet that commitment,” he said, adding that the work remaining to be done had been planned so that it would not disturb customers.

The project includes new carpet, interior painting, new interior lighting, a new reference desk, reorganization of staff work areas, landscaping upgrades, new exterior book drops, and an interior display and exterior signage memorializing Robert Lynn Batts Tobin, who donated the land where the library stands, all funded by a donation from the Tobin Endowment; and a new roof, resurfacing of the parking lot, new exterior lighting, and repairs and upgrades to sidewalks, funded by the 2007 City of San Antonio bond initiative.

For more information, the public may call 207-2500.
