- Center for Science in the Public Interest - A
non-profit organization working to improve the quality and safety of food and educate the
public about nutrition and alcohol. An excellent source of information about food
additives.
- Food Finder - Based on the book Fast Food
Facts by the Minnesota Attorney General's Office, this site provides fast-food
nutritional information. Search by restaurant, food item, calories, fat, cholesterol,
and/or sodium content.
- Tufts University Nutritional Navigator - This
online rating and review guide is designed to help you quickly locate sound nutritional
advice on the Internet. Sites are reviewed quarterly by nutritional experts. They have an
outstanding section on special dietary needs.
NUTRITIONAL ADVICE
- Ask the Dietitian - This
award-winning site takes the guesswork out of creating a healthy diet. Includes a question
and answer section on nutrition for a wide variety of topics including caffeine intake,
diabetes, and pregnancy. Use the body calculator to figure your optimum weight and calorie
intake.
- The Food Guide Pyramid -
A guide to daily food choices based on dietary guidelines produced by the United
States Department of Agriculture.
- The New American Plate
- The New American Plate from the Institute for Cancer Research is a fresh way of looking
at what you eat every day, and making a few simple changes that pay off both in the
short-term (weight management) and in the long-term (overall health and disease
prevention).
- Nutrition News Focus - A free daily
e-mail newsletter with easy to understand nutritional facts and advice. They frequently
cover current nutrition news and separate the sound science from the sound bites. Includes
a searchable archive.

Organic Explainer - A clear explanation of organic food production from CNN. This
sight also include excellent links to additional information on organic methods and

- Pyramid Eating
Guidelines for Older Adults - Created by researchers at Tufts University. This food
pyramid shows which foods are best for the aging body.

- Food Safety Website -
Created by the North Carolina State University Cooperative Extension Service, this
site provides well-organized categories to search for food safety information.
- Gateway to Government Food Safety Information
- The official food safety site of the U.S. government. Includes sections on consumer
advice, current food safety alerts, and contact information for reporting illness and
product complaints.
VITAMINS AND SUPPLEMENTS
- FDA Guide to Dietary
Supplements - From the Food and Drug Administration, this is a revised edition of an
article from the FDA Consumer. Includes information on the definition of a
dietary supplement, what is required on the labels of supplements, and interpreting claims
about supplements.
- NIH Office of Dietary Supplements
- The official page of the National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements.
Includes a definition and explanation of dietary supplements. Also links to the IBIDS
(International Bibliographic Information on Dietary Supplements) Database with published
international scientific literature on supplements, vitamins, minerals, and botanicals.

- The Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2000
- The fifth edition of The Dietary Guidelines for Americans
from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Department of Health and Human Services
(HHS) is designed to provide scientifically grounded, but easy-to-understand, suggestions for diets that
promote good health. Note: The guidelines numbers 40 or more pages when downloaded in .pdf
format from the USDA site.

Zagat Survey - Their mission

consumer advocate group, the Beverage Testing Institute, is devoted to reviews of beer,
wine, and spirits. You will find nothing for sale here and no advertising, just product
reviews and the largest online directory to wineries, breweries, and distilleries.
