VILLAS DE ESPERANZA

Villas de Esperanza, the second Affordable Showcase of Homes opened in February of 1997. The Affordable Showcase featured 24 model homes constructed by 12 builders from the Greater San Antonio Builders Association (GSABA). This housing development located on the south side, near Kelly Air Force Base, was constructed in an area that had not experienced any new construction in 10 years. The land was donated by its owners who are honored with monuments at the entrance of the subdivision. Challenges to the development included symptoms of urban decay that plagued the surrounding neighborhood including deteriorating infrastructure, drainage issues, vacant lots, graffiti and dilapidated housing.
