HISTORIC GARDENS

Historic Gardens, the third Affordable Showcase of Homes project, opened in September of 1997. Historic Gardens features 22 new homes constructed by 16 builders as part of the Alamodome Neighborhood Revitalization Master Plan. The development was administered by the San Antonio Development Agency (SADA) as the first phase of a five-phase project. SADA, under the Texas Natural Resource and Conservation Commission (TNRCC) Voluntary Cleanup Program, excavated over 12 inches of soil across the entire 4-acre site to remediate lead contamination and to return the area to a productive and attractive use for homeownership. Design guidelines were developed for the 22 new homes to incorporate them into the existing adjacent historical neighborhood.
