Networking Forum

People at a Networking Meeting

The NCR Networking Forum provides participants with a means of sharing information, ideas, expertise and experiences.

Monthly Networking Meetings are held for staff and NCR participant organizations. Meetings are held either in one of the corridors to allow other organizations to view successes, or in the NCR office where participants share their stories and hear from guest speakers. Guest speakers share helpful information that will either directly benefit business owners or assist participant organizations with revitalizing their area. Previous topics have included information on state programs, loan programs, and technical assistance for small businesses.

TRAINING SESSIONS

"The Forks and Knives of Restaurant Success" was held at St. Philip's College. The training was a specialized, all-day seminar that covered financial planning, food and bar costs, marketing tips, renovation ideas, and strategies to outperform the competition. The training was a success with several existing and potential business owners in attendance!

"Marketing Your Business Better" was held at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Two consultants led the training to provide both an academic and real-world viewpoint on the subject of marketing. Marketing strategies that could be implemented immediately were the highlight of the training for over 40 attendees.

"How to Become a Better Communicator" was held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Produced by SkillPath, the all-day seminar covered creating trust and building rapport, making a positive first impression, and communicating with difficult people among other topics. Over 80 people attended the training to make it the largest NCR training session to date.

Other training sessions have included:

  • National Development Council
Economic Development Finance Professional Certification: a year-long certification program for NCR staff and coordinators. This training is generously sponsored by Citibank.
