Revitalization Projects |

Modeled after the Main Street Program, NCR helps revitalization organizations - which serve as lead agencies for their district's renewal efforts - to put their specific plans into action. Each year, one Revitalization Project will be selected from among existing Partnership Projects, giving them direct assistance in achieving their vision. |
IMPLEMENTATION ASSISTANCE
The cornerstones of any successful revitalization effort are stakeholder organization, promotion
of the business district, design assistance and guidelines, and business development.
Revitalization Projects receive funding of $60,000 per year over a 6-year period to help
undertake these steps.
TECHNICAL AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
In addition to the resources of the Neighborhood Action Department, Revitalization Projects
are encouraged to use the expertise of City departments, such as Development Services,
Code Compliance, Planning, and Economic Development, that can assist their efforts.
Businesses within Revitalization Project Districts can take advantage of several targeted economic development incentives:
- technical assistance, including design assistance, marketing guidance, coaching on business strategies, financial statement analysis, and goal setting support
- planning and training sessions
- financial incentives, including grant money for façade improvements through Operation Facelift
In addition, each district has its own Executive Director or Revitalization Coordinator that is available to help businesses take advantage of the above opportunities. They further assist the NCR program by marketing the district and businesses, bringing new businesses to the area, and communicating regularly with business owners and community stakeholders.
INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE
Public improvements, such as streetscape projects, drainage work, sidewalks and parking,
are also visible signs of revitalization. For NCR Revitalization Projects, priorities and funding
for public infrastructure improvements will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Businesses within an NCR district can also receive assistance with permits, zoning, and other development issues.
PERFORMANCE MEASURES
Each district is evaluated based on a set of specific criteria. Performance Measures track
various economic development figures, including net jobs created, net new business in the
area, and private investment dollars. Click here to see annual goals for each district.
