Neighborhood Sweep Program

The Neighborhood Sweep program has modified the City of San Antonio's practice of providing services to neighborhoods on a first-come, first-serve, work-order basis. With varying departmental schedules, city services are often provided to neighborhoods without central coordination.

In an innovative approach, this program has established the concept of a satellite City Hall through the use of a mobile unit where residents can communicate with a designated Special Projects Coordinator. There, residents can voice their concerns and inquire about any city services. Through community meetings, we are able to customize city services to each individual neighborhood's needs and ensure efficiency in their delivery. Media Events help kick-off the two-week intensive city efforts that strive to restore pride in communities throughout San Antonio. Recognizing the limits of what the City can do alone, the program has worked to build partnerships with non-profit agencies and private companies to help address community needs.

The NAD staff works closely with city council members, multiple city departments, and council action team members to schedule the neighborhood sweeps. Two sweeps are conducted in each council district every fiscal year. If you are interested in applying for a sweep contact us to obtain an application or click here.

Program Recognition: The Neighborhood Sweeps program was named as one of the 15 finalist for the Innovation in American Government Award in 1999. The International City/County Management Association also recognized the program with the Program Excellence Award.
