Help Eliminate Childhood Lead Poisoning By 2010

 


The Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control Program (LBPHCP) is housed within the City of San Antonio’s Housing & Neighborhood Services Department (HNSD). The LBPHCP is a current grantee of HUD’s Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control Grant Program, through Office of Healthy Homes and Lead Hazard Control, and is further supported by the City’s HOME Investment Partnership (HOME) and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) housing programs to manage the respective lead hazard control activities.

The LBPHCP was established in 1999 when the City was awarded its first $4,000,000 grant through the Office of Healthy Homes and Lead Hazard Control Grant Program and ended in 2002. The LBPHCP reapplied for the grant through in 2004 and was awarded $2,000,000 which is currently in place.  On October 1, 2007, the City of San Antonio was awarded an additional $4,000,000 to continue addressing lead hazards County-wide for the next three years.

The City of San Antonio’s Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control Program (LBPHCP) provides financial assistance to owners and landlords of residential properties in order to control lead-based paint hazards.

Candidates must meet the following criteria to be considered for assistance:
  • Live in a house built prior to 1978 or spend at least 6 hours per week in the home;
  • Live within Bexar County;
  • Have a child under the age of six residing in the home;
  • All children living within the household, under the age of six,
  • should be tested for lead; AND
  • Meet the HUD Section 8 annual income limits which are:
