Release Date: April 22, 2010 Office of District 10 Councilman John G. Clamp: 207-7276 Demolition is under way at the El Chaparral Apartment Complex on Harry Wurzbach City Councilman John Clamp is pleased to announce that the demolition of the El Chaparral Apartment Complex, located at 3819 Harry Wurzbach Rd., is finally underway. The apartment complex has been vacant since 2008 and has been a magnet for vandalism and graffiti in recent months. The property owner began abatement and backfilled swimming pools in March, 2010. Inspections were completed and demolition permits issued in early April. Since that time, the rain has slowed the process; however, the property owner has stated that complete demolition and clean-up will take approximately 60 days. After demolition, the property owner has proposed building a mixed use development to include small office and retail spaces. "This has been a long process," said Councilman Clamp. "I would just like to thank the community, especially the surrounding neighborhoods, for their patience on this issue." Councilman John Clamp has been working on improving Harry Wurzbach Rd. from Loop 410 to the Fort Sam Houston Gate. In 2009, the honorary name, TAPS Memorial Blvd. was added to the roadway to honor the veterans interred at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Additional plans are in progress to redevelop and beautify the corridor.
