Cisneros: 207-7279 Councilwoman Cisneros named 2010 Latina Trailblazer by the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas On Friday, Councilwoman Mary Alice P. Cisneros was named the 2010 Latina Trailblazer by the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas (HWNT). She was honored at a special reception that was held during the 24th Annual HWNT Conference in Ft. Worth, Texas. Councilwoman Cisneros was recognized for her leadership and contributions to the San Antonio community as well as the State of Texas. Cisneros who is the president of River City Management, a small family-owned business, has been dedicated to public service and giving back to her community. She has been actively involved in area school boards and a member of various civic boards, committees and community projects. In 1985, she was honored as Outstanding Democratic Woman of the Year. In 1988, she was appointed to be a delegate to the Democratic National Committee. And in 2007 she was inducted into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame. Currently, she serves as secretary for the Democratic Municipal Officials for the National League of Cities. Her latest labor of love has been the establishment of American Sunrise, a community development housing organization that works to revitalize neighborhoods by providing educational and economic opportunities to improve the lives of working families. Hispanic Women's Network of Texas was established in 1987 and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to promoting the participation of Hispanic women in public, corporate and civic arenas. HWNT seeks to advance the educational, cultural, social, legal and economic well-being of Hispanic women through a broader awareness of their role in society, business and family.
