The San Antonio City Council today approved an ordinance that entered the City of San Antonio into a master economic incentives agreement with the City of Windcrest, the Windcrest Economic Development Corporation, and Rackspace Management Hosting. With the passage of this ordinance, Rackspace Inc. will relocate its headquarters to the former Windsor Park Mall complex. Rackspace is a San Antonio based information technology company founded in 1998. Rackspace headquarters are located in San Antonio with operations in Dallas, Austin, Virginia, and the United Kingdom. The ordinance allows for the City of Windcrest to acquire the Windsor Park Mall facility and surrounding land for use by Rackspace. The passage of this ordinance will allow Rackspace to expand exponentially by creating more than 5,000 jobs over the next five years, with 1,500 jobs in place at the initial move-in of the facility. Rackspace will invest $100 million in the property for improvements to the existing facility, which will have positive benefits for the surrounding community. “The new Rackspace complex will be a great economic generator for an area of the City that has been in need of revitalization. This once stagnant building will now be given new life, and I believe strongly that the Walzem Road area will once again thrive as a result of the new business brought in by Rackspace. This company and this mall will truly anchor what promises to be an extraordinary economic revitalization for the northeast area of District 2,” said Councilwoman McNeil. |
