Councilman Philip Cortez to take part in Hispanic Heritage Month event at Vice President Biden's home

District 4 City Councilman Philip Cortez has accepted an invitation by Vice President Joe Biden to attend a reception on Thursday, October 14, at the Naval Observatory in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Hispanic Heritage Month is a time when people recognize the contributions of Hispanic Americans to the United States and to celebrate Hispanic heritage and culture. Hispanic Heritage Week was approved by President Lyndon B. Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988.

Councilman Cortez is honored to attend the event and looks forward to participating in the Hispanic Heritage Month events in Washington.

"Many Hispanic Americans have contributed greatly to our country," said Councilman Cortez. "The Hispanic community is a vibrant and growing community and will continue to be at the forefront of our country."
