![]() Release Date: April 6, 2010 Office of District 4 Councilman Philip A. Cortez: 207-7281 First Annual District 4 Pet Fair Promoting
Responsible Care for San Antonio Pets
The Pet Fair will feature demonstrations, information booths, various animal care professionals and animals up for adoption. Information on low cost spay/neuter services will be available along with micro chipping, grooming and even dog/owner training. We believe "education is key for pet owners to ensure animals are healthy and treated humanely" said Councilwoman Leticia Cantu, echoing Councilman Cortez's passion on the topic. Currently, District 4 ranks at the top as the District with the highest number of stray animals. Animal Care Services Director Gary Hendel says the Pet Fair is the perfect example of District 4 tackling a serious issue in a proactive way. "With Councilwoman Cantu's continued help and support, we'll be able to make a big difference in the pet overpopulation issue in our community." Councilwoman Cantu selected Pearsall Park since it is one of only 2 dog parks currently in the city. The planning of the First Annual District 4 Pet Fair has been a collaboration of efforts between City's Animal Care Service, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, and Solid Waste Management Departments, along with several non-profits, and the Residents of District 4.
