Councilman John G. Clamp announces the start of the Salado Creek Connector Project

Today, the City Council voted to move forward and construct the connection of the North Salado Creek Greenway Trails from Los Patios to the Robert L.B. Tobin Park Trailhead. The trail will consist of approximately 820 linear feet of concrete trail and signage, extending under the Loop 410 overpass. When complete, citizens can enjoy non-stop hiking and biking from McAllister Park all the way down to the Oakwell Trailhead at Ira Lee Road. It is anticipated that construction on the connector project will begin in March, 2011 and will be complete by September, 2011.

"I am very excited that we are now able to move forward with this integral connector project," said Councilman Clamp. "It is encouraging to see our city become more focused on fitness and it’s important that we invest in projects, such as the greenway trails, that promote health and fitness, beautify our city and create and preserve green space."

The City has greenways along the Salado Creek, Leon Creek, Medina River and the San Antonio River. The greenways are funded by the Linear Park Development Program and currently offer about 23 miles of trail that are open to the public. Approximately 1,100 acres of property along San Antonio Creekways have been acquired for the program since its inception.
