Release Date: January 28, 2011 Office of District 10 Councilman John G. Clamp: 207-7276 Councilman John G. Clamp supports Soccer for a Cause District 10 Councilman John Clamp believes that despite all of the controversy, Gordon Hartman's plans to bring a NASL soccer team to San Antonio has real merit. Last year, Hartman opened Morgan's Wonderland, the first family fun park designed for special-needs individuals. Admission is free for those with special needs, and very reasonable for all others, making it necessary to supplement operating expenses in another way: enter STAR Soccer. The South Texas Area Regional (STAR) Soccer Complex, also Hartman's creation, was put in place to help fund Morgan's Wonderland. Hartman has also purchased a pro soccer team, the San Antonio Scorpions FC, whose profits will support Morgan's Wonderland. "You are always going to draw some controversy when you try something that has never been done before," said Councilman Clamp. "I just hope that the controversy surrounding this project does not detract from the genuine purpose of the venture. Although the City Council still needs to do a comprehensive economic analysis and explore funding options, supporting Soccer for a Cause is the right thing to do for our city and our special needs community." The District 10 Office has been overwhelmed with emails and phone calls of support for this cause. Due diligence must be done; but we must help the project move forward in a positive way. |
