District 2 unveils new multi-service center for senior residents

Councilwoman Ivy R. Taylor led City staff and crowds of senior residents in the grand opening of the new District 2 Senior Center. The 8,000 square foot facility located at 1751 South W. W. White Rd. is set to provide noon meals and a host of wellness, education, and comprehensive assistance services to seniors 60 years of age and older.

"I'm very excited our District 2 senior citizens have a state of the art facility to call their own," Councilwoman Taylor said. "It is a great place for them to learn new arts and crafts, use brand new exercise equipment, and meet with other seniors. I'm pleased and honored to dedicate this new resource to the District 2 residents."

The center is open Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In addition to free lunches (donations are accepted for meals), senior patrons can take advantage of basic medical screenings, fitness/exercise machines, computer classes, arts/recreation activities and case management assistance available on-site during the week.
