Strategic Plan for Community Development to be Presented at Housing Summit
Plan aims to synchronize community development decisions

Future community development in San Antonio will be steered by a strategic plan. The three-year rolling blueprint calls for focused investment strategies to address all elements of the living and built environment that create a sustainable community. Residents are invited to learn more details about the Strategic Plan for Community Development on Wednesday, September 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The City’s Planning and Community Development Department will conduct a public presentation of the plan at the Sixth Annual Housing Summit taking place at the Hilton San Antonio Airport, 611 NW Loop 410. People interested in hearing the plan are encouraged to register for the summit and attend the Wednesday morning session.

Designed to facilitate coordinated decision-making regarding community development, the strategic plan will benefit residents of San Antonio by pulling together public and private investments in focused areas to turn them around. The plan is unique in three key ways:

 Implementation proposals are based on the findings of a city-wide real estate market value analysis (MVA) that provides critical information for community development practitioners in both public and private sectors.

 Reinvestment plans focus the resources of multiple departments, agencies, and stakeholders in targeted areas to stimulate comprehensive community development.

 Reporting and evaluation based on measurable outcomes is facilitated through use of the MVA and the creation of a Community Development Action Team (CDAT).

Stakeholders who attended the Community Development Summit last June contributed significant input in the creation of the plan. Comments at subsequent community meetings also helped craft it. The strategic plan builds on current community development and related efforts by the City of San Antonio, local public agencies, non-profit organizations, community development corporations, neighborhoods, and the private sector.
