Two weeks left for nominations for the City’s First Annual Green Building Awards

There are two weeks left for nominations to be received for the City of San Antonio’s first annual Green Building Awards.

The awards will celebrate builders who have made significant strides in improving the performance of their buildings, as well as, specific construction projects. Awards will be offered in several categories within the divisions of commercial and residential construction.
In addition, coinciding with the Department of Energy’s designation of San Antonio as a “Solar American City” a special award will be given to a nominee who has made significant contributions in solar energy.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 20. Nomination forms are available at http://www.sanantonio.gov/mayor. Winners will be announced at a special awards ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 8 at the International Center, 203 S. St. Mary’s Street.

“The future of our energy needs as a City and as a nation lies in the policy of sustainability, said Mayor Phil Hardberger during his 2009 State of the City address. “It is time to make San Antonio a leader in this new energy world.”

This program was initiated through a Council Request for Consideration submitted by Councilwoman Diane G. Cibrian with support from Councilwoman Mary Alice P. Cisneros, Councilwoman Lourdes Galvan, Councilwoman Sheila McNeil and Councilman Louis E. Rowe. This program was also made possible through the support of the Mayor’s Sustainable Building Task Force.
