Rise and Shine for Historic Preservation

The City’s Office of Historic Preservation is hosting a community symposium featuring renowned preservation expert, Donovan Rypkema, a leader in the economics of historic preservation and principal of PlaceEconomics, a Washington, D.C., based real estate and economic development-consulting firm. Rypkema will speak about historic preservation as a tool for sustainability.

The symposium will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31, at the Development and Business Services Center – Training Rooms A and B, 1901 S. Alamo. Light refreshments and coffee will be served. This event is free and open to the public.

Rypkema holds a Master of Science degree in historic preservation from Columbia University. He has lectured on economic and preservation issues relating to rehabilitation, community development and commercial revitalization across the United States and internationally. He is the author of several publications, including Community Initiated Development, The Economics of Rehabilitation and the Downtown Real Estate Development Series. His book, The Economics of Historic Preservation: A Community Leader’s Guide, is now in its second printing and is widely used by preservationists nationwide.
