MLK Commission to award 2009 scholarship recipients
- 20 local high school students will be honored on May 14 -

Twenty local high school seniors have been named 2009 MLK scholarship recipients. Mayor Phil Hardberger and the City Council will pay tribute to the MLK scholars as they are formally presented on Thursday, May 14 at 5:00 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, 103 Main Plaza. Each student will be awarded $1000 to assist them as they pursue a college degree.

More than 40 high school students in Bexar County were interviewed for this year’s scholarship. Awarding of the MLK scholarships is an integral part of the MLK Commission’s activities every year to honor and celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The financial assistance is intended to continue Dr. King’s dream of educational opportunity for all children while supporting area students pursuing higher education.

Scholarship funds are raised by the commission from contributions received from local businesses and participants of the annual MLK Interfaith Service.
