Open House set for the
Dignowity Hill Neighborhood Plan and Eastside Reinvestment Plan
- Public
invited to review and comment on draft plan
-
The Dignowity Hill Neighborhood Plan and
the Eastside Reinvestment Plan Open House is set for Saturday, August
29, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Municipal Auditorium.
Attendees will have an opportunity to review and comment on the draft
plan. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. with the presentation beginning at
1:00 p.m. with opening remarks from District 2 Councilwoman Ivy Taylor.
Over the past three months, community stakeholders have worked intensely
to identify strengths and weaknesses and formulate actions that can be
taken to reach the vision on how the area should redevelop over the next
five to 20 years. The Open House provides an opportunity for the entire
community to review the draft plan and provide their comments.
The Dignowity Hill planning area consists of approximately 640 acres
located east of downtown and is generally bounded by Sherman to the
north; North New Braunfels and St. James to the east; Commerce and
Houston to the south; and IH-37 to the west.
The Dignowity Hill Neighborhood Plan and the Eastside Reinvestment Plan
includes two separate documents in one. The neighborhood plan is used
for policy recommendations of priority projects as a component of the
City Master Plan. The Eastside Reinvestment Plan builds on the goals of
the neighborhood plan with specific reinvestment strategies over the
next five years. Reinvestment plans form part of the Strategic Plan for
Community Development.
After incorporating comments from the public, the Planning and
Development Services Department will present the Eastside Reinvestment
Plan to the Community Development Advisory Committee on September 8. The
Dignowity Hill Neighborhood Plan will be presented to the Planning
Commission in October for consideration, and then to the City Council
for adoption in December.
