Open House set for the Eastern
Triangle Community Plan
-Residents invited to
review and comment on draft plan-
The Eastern Triangle Community Plan Open
House is set for Thursday, March 19, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
at the Navajo Civic Center, located at 2600 Rigsby Avenue. Attendees
will have an opportunity to review and comment on the draft plan.
Over the last year, community stakeholders have worked intensely to
identify strengths and weaknesses and formulate actions that can be
taken to reach the vision on how the area should develop over the next
20 to 30 years. The Open House provides an opportunity for the entire
community to review the draft plan and provide their comments.
The Eastern Triangle planning area is located in southeast Bexar County
and is generally bounded by IH 10 to the north; South Foster Road and
Loop 410 to the east; New Sulphur Springs and Southcross Boulevard to
the south; and Roland Avenue to the west. The planning area consists of
approximately 9,589 acres with a population of approximately 28,000
residents (Census 2000).
A community plan is a collaborative effort with involvement of many
different community stakeholders. The plan takes into consideration the
community’s goals, current infrastructure, best planning practices,
input from government agencies and the City’s Master Plan policies.
Completed plans represent the collective vision for the community.
Community plans identify the preferred method and form of future growth
and ideas for community improvement. After plan adoption, the future
land use plan will be utilized by the City when evaluating zoning
decisions. The plan is used for policy recommendations of priority
projects as part of the Annual Improvement Project Report to City
Council. Additionally as a component of the City Master Plan, plans
should be consulted in reviewing projects for capital projects, bonds,
and consideration of new programs. Currently, there are 36 adopted
community and neighborhood plans.
After incorporating comments from the public, the
Planning and Development Services Department will present the proposal to
the Planning Commission in April 2009 for consideration, and then to the
City Council for adoption as part of the City’s Master Plan.
