Make the pledge to recycle!
City set to host mobile HHW/Recycle event at the Alamodome on September 19

Start the pledge to recycle today! This weekend as you and your family are enjoying the official last days of summer, the City encourages you to start thinking "green".

Saturday, September 19, will be declared "Recycle Day" as the City's Solid Waste Management Department host its fourth mobile household hazardous waste event (HHW) but with a twist. At the event, residents will not only be able to recycle HHW items they have lying around but they will also be able to recycle gently used clothing, gently used furniture, and all recyclable materials accepted in the City's recycling program.

This event is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Alamodome, 100 Montana Street. All San Antonio residents are welcome to attend. The City wants to extend a special invitation to the residents living in apartments to take part in this event.

At the recycling portion of the event, San Antonio residents will be able to bring all items accepted in the City's recycling program (glass bottles and jars, metal, paper and plastics with an index of 1-7),along with gently used clothing, gently used furniture and tires (up to six). Residents are asked to bring their CPS Energy bill.

HHW items such as paint, motor oil, antifreeze, pool chemicals, batteries, pesticides, aerosol cans and florescent light bulbs will be accepted. Materials should be kept in their original containers. If containers are deteriorated or leaking, transfer materials to a safe container and label the new container to correctly identify the contents. For this portion of the event, residents must bring a picture ID along with a current CPS Energy bill showing Environmental Fee as proof of residency.
