New mascot makes big
Texas debut
Recycling mascot retires,
hands over the reigns
Next week San Antonio will give a big Texas welcome to the City’s
Solid Waste Management Department’s latest addition to help San Antonio
recycle. Donning a cowboy hat and boots, “Carter” the two-cart mascot
will make his debut to teach us all just how easy it is to bag in brown
and recycle in blue.
At 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29 at the Harlandale Community Center,
located at 7727 Briar, the new mascot will kick off the children’s
summer recycling campaign. At the event, children will be asked to take
Carter’s pledge to recycle. They will also be taught the three R’s:
Reduce, Re-use and Recycle. The current recycling mascot, “Binnie,” will
make a special appearance as he bids farewell and hands over the City’s
recycling efforts to Carter.
The Solid Waste Management Department is dedicated to helping San
Antonians become better environmental stewards. They believe that
teaching children to recycle at an early age will help them to formulate
a habit, which will serve them for the rest of their lives. This is one
of the latest steps the department is taking to help San Antonio to
become a greener city.
