Don’t let a good can of
paint go to waste
City’s Graffiti Abatement
Program kicks off paint drive
Do you have a good can of paint lying around your garage? If you
have cans of paint sitting around your home collecting dust then the
City has a proposition for you. The City’s Housing and Neighborhood
Services Department’s Graffiti Abatement Program in partnership with the
Solid Waste Management Department is looking to collect several good
gallons of paint as they kick-off their annual paint drive to collect
paint for the 2009 Graffiti Wipeout event.
Residents wanting to help can donate any water-based latex paint
suitable for domestic application to the Household Hazardous Waste
Drop-off facility, 7030 Culebra, during their normal business hours
Fridays 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturdays 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Please bring a picture ID and current CPS Energy bill showing
“Environmental Fee” as proof of residency.
The paint should be in its original container, less than five years old,
at least a third full, and in useable condition. All colors are welcome.
No commercial paint will be accepted. The first 100 contributors that
donate four gallons or more of paint will receive a small gift.
The 6th Annual Graffiti Wipeout Volunteer Day is scheduled for
September. Graffiti Wipeout is the City’s largest volunteer graffiti
removal event. During the event, crews are dispersed throughout the city
to paint over tagged drainage channels, bridge overpasses, buildings and
privacy fences.
