City to host 2nd Annual Graffiti Workshop

The 2nd Annual Graffiti Workshop is scheduled to take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. on Friday June 26 at the Carver Community Cultural Center, 226 N. Hackberry and Saturday, June 27 at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Theatre, 1301 Guadalupe.

The two-day workshop, which is free and open to public, will once again feature nationally renowned graffiti expert and author Victoria Wilson-Merritt. Participants will be provided with in-depth information on graffiti, its history and the research that has been conducted on the subject. They will also have the opportunity to hear from City officials about the efforts the City is making to abate graffiti, educate the community on the causes and effects of graffiti and what new policies have been put into place to enforce graffiti laws in San Antonio.

Graffiti tagging is a crime that continues to grow within the United States. Each year, the U.S. spends more than $8 billion cleaning up graffiti.

For more information on the workshop or to make a reservation, contact Lisa McKenzie at (210) 207-5430 or by email at lisa.mckenzie@sanantonio.gov. Deadline for registration is Monday, June 22. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided for those who pre-register.
