Summer Recycling Tips
Tip #7: Make your back-to-school shopping a “green” experience

As you head out this week to get your student ready for school, keep this recycling tip from the City's Solid Waste Management Department in mind.

Tip #7: Make your back-to-school shopping a “green” experience. Don’t let the back-to-school rush deter you from your eco-friendly ways: Purchase recycled or recyclable products such as mechanical pencils as an alternative to a standard wooden pencil. Also consider buying refillable pens and non-toxic markers and highlighters. Don’t forget to put rechargeable batteries on that shopping list for your electronic items and a reusable lunch bag or box.

Finally, consider buying items that are heavily needed throughout the year in bulk and always try to purchase items with the universal recycle symbol on it.

Just because summer is coming to an end does not mean your recycling trends have to; make your back-to-school shopping a “green” eco-friendly experience. For more recycling tips, visit www.sanantonio.gov/swmd.
