“Window on Preservation”
City’s Office of Preservation hosts community symposium

The City’s Office of Historic Preservation and the University of Texas at San Antonio will host a community symposium from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 14 at the AIA Center for Architecture at the Pearl Brewery, 200 East Grayson.

Experts in historic preservation will discuss sustainability, energy efficiency, and the economics of restoring historic buildings. The goal of the symposium is to provide citizens with valuable information about the pros and cons of preservation. Professionals with specific experience in restoration will be available to answer any questions regarding preservation.

This event will kick off a weekend-long workshop on wood window restoration. The window restoration workshop is on Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16, at the historic Fire Station #11, 323 S. Frio St. Participants in the workshop will learn the basics of how to restore wood windows. Homeowners can register for a one-day course on repair and maintenance of wood windows. Contractors can register for a two-day course and certification in advanced wood window restoration.

For more information and registration information for the weekend workshop, contact Molly Matthews in the Office of Historic Preservation, at (210) 207-1460 or by email at OHP@sanantonio.gov.
