Final presentations of Los Pastores begins this weekend

The City's Downtown Operations Department in conjunction with Our Lady of Guadalupe Church presents the final presentations of Los Pastores - the Shepherds Play beginning this weekend, January 8 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at La Villta - Plaza Juarez and January 9 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Market Square - Farmers' Market Plaza Building.

Los Pastores - the Shepherds Play emphasizes the meaning of Christmas and engages audiences in the trials and tribulations the shepherds of Bethlehem endured to adore the Christ child on the first Christmas. It is a story that depicts the victory of good over evil. The play originated in Spain and was adapted in Mexico. Don Leandro Granados brought San Antonio's Los Pastores to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church from his beloved Mexico around 1910.

Sung in Spanish, the hour and a half long performance will be followed by hot chocolate and pan dulce. The final performances will take place on Saturday, January 15 at La Villita and Sunday, January 16 at Market Square.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information contact the La Villita administrative office at 207-8602 or the Market Square administrative office at 207-8602.
