Office of Environmental Policy Launches Bike Share Program for Downtown Employees

The City of San Antonio's Office of Environmental Policy has launched a bike-share program for downtown City employees. The program is designed to encourage workers to consider alternative, sustainable transportation for short trips such as daytime meetings, lunch and errands in order to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality.

A side benefit is that "active" transportation promotes a healthier lifestyle which also improves quality-of-life. The program which is free requires employees to wear helmets and follow the rules of the road.

The bicycles were decommissioned by the San Antonio Police Department and have been outfitted with new locks, rear lights, and front baskets.

The Office of Environmental Policy's "San Antonio Bikes" program's mission is to increase the level of bicycling for daily travel as well as improve bicycle safety. Primary objectives focus on making the bicycle network accessible, direct, and continuous thereby raising the visibility of cycling as an alternative mode of transportation in our community.
