Directors for San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau and Public Health
Department Matej comes to the City with more than 15 years of experience in the Convention and Visitor's Bureau, Hotel, and Leisure industries. Prior to her appointment, she served as the Senior Vice President of Sales and Services for the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau for the past three years. During her tenure, she was instrumental in implementing the restructure of sales and resource allocations for the Dallas CVB which resulted in a 40 percent growth of convention room night sales. Matej holds a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Speech Communications with a concentration in Organizational Communications from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Schlenker joins the City of San Antonio with over 20 years of public health experience and has been practicing and teaching medicine for more than 30 years. For the past five years, Dr. Schlenker has served as the Director of Public Health for Madison-Dane County, Wisconsin, where he was responsible for merging the public health functions of both the City of Madison and Dane County into one consolidated Public Health Department. He also has served as the Executive Director for the Salt Lake Health Department, Salt Lake City, Utah, and as the Deputy Commissioner for Medical Affairs for the Milwaukee Health Department, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Schlenker received his Doctor of Medicine from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, Illinois, and his Master's of Public Health degree from Harvard University. He is also fluent in Spanish. "Cassandra Matej and Dr. Schlenker are outstanding additions to our City of San Antonio team," said City Manager Sheryl Sculley.
