City's new brush program in full gear

The City's Solid Waste Management Department's new brush program is in full gear.
Under the new program, residents will receive two brush pickup services a year and one bulky item service a year. The new changes will allow the department to recycle more clean brush and help increase the City's recycling rate of brush from 19 percent to approximately 28 percent. Overall, the City has a recycling goal of 60 percent by 2020.

During brush pickup residents should only place out clean brush. Clean brush includes tree branches, woody vines, shrubs and other herbaceous and woody plants. Brush piles should be no more than eight cubic yards (which is equivalent to eight washers or dryers). No bagged leaves or grass clippings should be placed in with the brush.

Residents are reminded that when preparing brush for pickup it should not be placed within eight feet of the curb, should not contain non-brush materials and should not be obstructed by low hanging limbs or other obstacles.
