Council to hear progress
report on bond program
City Council will hear a progress report on the $550 million Bond Program
that San Antonio citizens approved last May.
The briefing will be given during the Council’s B-Session, which is
scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, in the “B” Room of the
Municipal Plaza Building, 114 W. Commerce St. The Council will be briefed
on the 151 projects that make up the largest bond program in the city’s
history.
San Antonio has adopted the motto of “On schedule, on budget” for the
2007-2012 Bond Program. The Bond Program is a major priority for City
Manager Sheryl Sculley and Mayor Phil Hardberger, who made reference to it
during his “State of the City” address last week.
At the recommendation of the City Manager, City Council approved the
formation of a new department, Capital Improvements Management Services
Department (CIMS), to focus on substantially completing the 2007-2012 Bond
Program by the end of June 2012.
The B-Session presentation will highlight the program’s completed projects
and those currently in construction.
“The City is coordinating with the consultant and contracting community to
aggressively pursue the design and construction of the 151 projects
identified by the voters for the 2007-2012 Bond Program,” said CIMS
Director Mike Frisbie.
The projects are split into the following five propositions – streets,
bridges and sidewalks; drainage; parks, recreation, open space and
athletics improvements; libraries; and public health facilities.
