City ready to help
citizens clean up
- City-wide
cleanup day scheduled -
If you have old appliances, furniture, mattresses, tires and
other old items sitting around the house taking up space then it’s time
for you kick-it-up a notch by taking your spring cleaning to the next
level. The City is holding its annual City-wide Cleanup Day on April 5.
This annual event provides San Antonio residents with the perfect
opportunity to get rid of all their unwanted brush and bulky items for
free. City crews and trucks will be stationed at more than 20 convenient
locations from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to assist residents who want to get
rid of unwanted items.
The City-wide Cleanup Day is available at no cost to residents who pay the
City of San Antonio solid waste rate fee through their monthly CPS Energy
utility bills. A copy of a recent CPS Energy bill and photo identification
will be required at the event as proof of residency, and to obtain “free”
disposal. Residents are asked to cover their items with a tarp prior to
transporting to the site to avoid a potential “no tarp” fine in accordance
with City Ordinance.
Citizens can also help with the fight against graffiti by donating cans of
water-based latex paint they have sitting around the house. The donated
paint will be used during the 2008 Graffiti Wipeout Volunteer Day. The
paint along with batteries, motor oil and other household chemical waste
will be accepted during the same time period at the Household Hazardous
Waste Drop-Off Site (HHW) located at 7030 Culebra.
While we are cleaning up our houses, don’t forget to help clean up the
environment.
Residents are encouraged to “Mow Down Smog” by recycling that old gas
guzzling grass
mower for a cleaner upgraded version. Individuals that trade in their old
equipment at the City’s Bitters Road Brush Recycling Center, 1800 Old
Bitters Road, can receive up to an $80 rebate off a new electric model
from CPS Energy.
It’s time to get cleaned up San Antonio. For more information and for
locations, call 3-1-1 or visit www.sanantonio.gov/enviro.
