City wipes out over 400,000 square feet of graffiti in three months

The City of San Antonio is making strides when it comes to wiping out graffiti within the city.

For the first three months of the 2008 fiscal year, City crews have abated 468,810 square feet of graffiti. That number averages out to approximately 156,270 square feet of graffiti per month.

The numbers represent over a 100% increase compared to the same time period last year. During the first quarter of the 2007 fiscal year, City crews abated a total of 233,669
square feet of graffiti.

With the addition of seven new staff members, the City’s Graffiti Abatement Program has been able to aggressively attack graffiti throughout the city. In addition to the increase in staff members, the program continues to form partnerships with various City departments, neighborhood associations, community groups and educational institutions to target graffiti riddled areas.
