A few good volunteers
-
City gears up for 5th Annual Graffiti
Wipeout -
The City is looking for a few good volunteers! That is the current
mantra of the Housing and Neighborhood Services Department’s Graffiti
Abatement Program.
The department is looking for individuals who are willing to roll up
their sleeves and pick up a paint brush to help eradicate graffiti
during the Fifth Annual Graffiti Wipeout Volunteer Day on Saturday,
September 27.
If you agree that clean, safe, attractive neighborhoods should be a
priority in our city, then we invite you to join us for this day of
philanthropy. This year, each of the 10 City Council districts will team
up with City staff to participate in various cleanup projects. If
painting isn’t your cup of tea, volunteers may participate in a variety
of other activities such as litter cleanups, school and park cleanups
and much more.
Last year, 2715 volunteers participated in the Graffiti Wipeout. The day
of philanthropy resulted in 404,957 sq. feet of graffiti being
eradicated which was a cost benefit of approximately $98,000 for the
city.
“We want San Antonio to look its best all year long and for that we need
San Antonio residents to get involved,” David Garza, director of housing
and neighborhood services, said. “Getting involved with the Graffiti
Wipeout is a fun and easy way for residents to be able to make a
difference in our city.”
The deadline to register to volunteer is Friday, September 12. If you
are unable to volunteer for this event, the Graffiti Program is
establishing a year-round volunteer program called the Community
Graffiti Volunteer Program.
