activities showcase San Antonio’s history
- Main Plaza opening celebration
offers fun for all citizens-
The opening of Main Plaza – The Heart of the City on Sunday,
April 13, will offer plenty of fun for all of San Antonio’s citizens.
Festivities for the young and young at heart will take place from 6:00
p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at various locations across the plaza.
Activities include strolling and interactive mascots from the Museo
Alameda, “Queztal”, and Perpetual Puppets' “Zuquita” fresh from her
appearance at the Tejano Music Awards. For the artistic visitor, the
National Park Service and ArtPace will get their creative juices flowing
with a variety of art projects. There will also be a special performance
by the Magik Children’s Theatre as they present the highly entertaining
“Long Ago in Mexico.”
During the event, participants will also have an opportunity to experience
how the Canary Islanders arrived in San Antonio as the Canary Islands
Descendants Association along with Los Granaderos y Damas de Gálvez
present a live reenactment. Visitors may even spot a few settlers from
various time periods strolling across the plaza.
Come out and enjoy the Opening Day Celebration of Main Plaza, the night
promises to be a celebration for the entire family culminating with the
presentation of the Tobin Fountains. Opening day festivities are free and
open to the public. Food concessions will be available. For more
