City’s Housing and Neighborhood Services Department receives national recognition

The City of San Antonio’s Housing and Neighborhood Services Department’s Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Program is being recognized with the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials’ (NAHRO) Award of Merit in Housing and Community Development for their efforts in the revitalization of the San Antonio River and the former Brooks Air Force Base.

The revitalization of the base, which was a joint effort between the City and the U.S. Air Force, has successfully created over 540,000 square feet of commercial retail development, 223,000 square feet of industrial facilities, 25 acres of park space and a 35,000 square feet emergency operations center.

The TIF Program, which was selected from a variety of programs throughout the United States, will receive the award in late July in Nashville, TN.
