Voelcker Park consultants to present
conceptual design plan at March 3 meeting
- Open house March 1 to feature wildflower and butterfly tour -

Stimson Associates and D.I.R.T. Studio, consultants for the Voelcker Park master plan project, will present a conceptual design plan with options for recommended programming for the park at a community meeting slated for 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 3, at the Campus of the San Antonio Jewish Community located at 12500 N.W. Military Drive.

Citizens are encouraged to attend and provide feedback on the conceptual design for the new 311-acre park located on either side of Wurzbach Parkway between Military Highway and Blanco Road.

“This is the third round in the public input process and the exciting conceptual design is becoming more defined,” says Mayor Phil Hardberger. “We want the community to have every opportunity to see the plan as it takes shape and to give us feedback.”

The two consultant firms were selected to design the park in July of last year following a national juried design competition headed by Mayor Phil Hardberger. A series of community meetings held in October and December resulted in extensive public input used by the consultants to create the conceptual design to be presented at the March 3 meeting.

“With the feedback from the upcoming meeting, our consultants will be able to finalize the design for the master plan and bring it back to the community later this spring,” explains Krystal Strong, Parks and Recreation Special Projects Manager.
Outdoor enthusiasts will get another opportunity to enjoy the scenic view at Voelcker when Parks and Recreation Department staff open the gates at 12000 N.W. Military for an open house from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 1.

At 10:00 a.m., staff from the San Antonio Botanical Garden will treat park patrons to a Wildflower and Butterfly tour along the picturesque trail. Along the way, children’s activities will be provided by Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Services staff.
